Second Annual UNICO Wine Tasting Fundraiser - 04/03/2009

The Pittsfield Chapter of UNICO National will hold its second annual wine tasting fundraiser on Friday, April 3, 2009 at the Berkshire Hills Country Club. Tickets will be available soon and can be purchased by contacting Anthony Gamberoni or Mike Quadrozzi.

 

Boys' & Girl's Club Fundraiser - 02/19/2009

The Pittsfield Chapter of UNICO National will hold a fundraiser to benefit the Pittsfield Boys' & Girls' Club sports teams. The event will be held at the Italian American Club on Newell St. in Pittsfield.

 

Big Brother/Big Sisters Christmas Party - 12/18/2008

The Pittsfield Chapter of UNICO National will be hosting a Christmas party for the Big Brothers/Big Sisters children in our area. The party will be on Thursday, December 18th at 6 PM. Pizza and other treats will be served. And the party will include a special visit from Santa.

 

Salvation Army Bell Ringing - 12/17/2008 & 12/18/2008

On December 17th and 18th, members of the Pittsfield Chapter of UNICO national will once again be volunteering to  ring the Salvation Army bells in front of the Wal-Mart in Pittsfield to seek donations for this worthy charity. This annual event is a fun time for all participants from UNICO. 

 

Wish Kids Christmas Party - 12/14/2008

On Sunday, December 14th the Pittsfield UNICANS and their spouses will again be hosting a Christmas party for area youth who have been afflicted with a life threatening illness. The party begins at 12:00 PM at the ITAM Lodge in Pittsfield with fun and food for these children and their families. The festivities include a visit by Santa Claus and gifts for all children in attendance.

 

CYC Basketball Pasta Dinner - 12/10/2008

The Pittsfield Chapter of UNICO National will cook and serve a pasta dinner to benefit the Catholic Youth Center's basketball program on Wednesday, December 10th. The dinner will be from 5:30 - 7:30 PM at the St. Mark's School cafeteria. All monies raised go to the CYC basketball program.

 

Diocese Youth Weekend - 11/22/2008 & 11/23/2008

Members of the Pittsfield Chapter of UNICO National will be preparing 800 lunches to serve to Pittsfield area youth for Diocese Youth Weekend. The members will prepare 400 lunches on Saturday, November 22nd, and 400 more on Sunday, November 23rd. More details to follow.

 

Pasta Dinner to Benefit Special Olympics - 11/16/2008

The members of the Pittsfield Chapter of UNICO National will be cooking a pasta dinner at the Masonic Temple in Pittsfield to benefit the Special Olympics. Dinner will be served between 1 and 3 PM on Sunday, November 16th.

 

UNICO Berkshire County Baseball Hall of Fame Induction - 11/16/2008

The Pittsfield Chapter of UNICO National will celebrate its 13th annual Berkshire County Baseball Hall of Fame Induction ceremony at 2:00 PM at the GEAA.

 

Sports Team Fundraiser Dinner - 11/13/2008

The members of the Pittsfield Chapter of UNICO National will be cooking a fundraiser dinner at St. Mark's  to benefit a local sports team. Dinner will be served at 6 pm on Thursday, November 13th.

 

 

Western Mass Labor Action Council Fundraiser - 11/06/2008

The Pittsfield Chapter of UNICO National will be preparing a pasta dinner at Eastover in Lenox Ma to benefit the Western Mass Labor Action Council. UNICANs will serve donors a pasta dinner. The donors will then the opportunity to bid at the Council's silent auction.

 

A Taste of Italy VII - 10/13/2008

The Pittsfield Chapter of UNICO National presents its 7th annual 'A Taste of Italy' dinner at Eastover in Lenox MA at 6:00 PM. A variety of Italian cuisine will be served along with music and fun.

 

Taconic’s Jay Cronze receives Piccolo award from UNICO 5/19/2008

Pittsfield- The Pittsfield Chapter of UNICO National recently presented its third annual Brian Piccolo award to Taconic High School’s senior Jay Cronze. The award was presented by former past president, Paul Procopio, who co-chaired the committee along with past president Paul Capitanio.

 

Co-Chairman Paul Capitanio, his wife Beth and daughter’s Holly and Heather, surprised Cronze with a $1,000 scholarship in memory of their deceased son and brother, Paul Capitanio Jr., a former Pittsfield High School football player.

 

The award is presented to a senior football player from one of the three city schools who has shown outstanding improvement in athletics and demonstrates the qualities of determination, self-motivation, leadership, selflessness and teamwork.  Candidates were nominated by their coaching staffs. The awards committee made the final decision.

 

Brian Piccolo was born in Pittsfield and lived for a short time in Dalton. His father operated a driving school on South St. where the present Pittsfield Co-Operative Bank is located. The Piccolo family moved to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., when Brian was age 7.

 

Piccolo was a star athlete at South Catholic High School in Florida and later starred as a fullback at Wake Forest University. He played for the Chicago Bears before he died fighting five forms of cancer at the age of 26. His short career was a topic of the movie “Brian’s Song.”

 

Jay Cronze is an honor student and three-sport standout at Taconic High School. He was the captain of the football and baseball teams where he was a four year varsity player and a member of the varsity basketball team for two years. Jay was involved in numerous extra curricular school activities, as well as, community civic and religious activities. Jay the son of Ishmael and Mercy Cronze of Pittsfield plans on attending Berkshire School in the fall.
